1. 表示“解释”，通常不接双宾语;若语义上需要这类结构，可以改用 explain sth to *** 结构。如：

请把这条规则给我们解释一下。

误：Please explain us this rule.

正：Please explain this rule to us.

若其中的 sth 较长或较复杂(比如是不定式或从句)，也可以用explain to *** sth。如：

He explained to us why he was late. 他给我们解释了他迟到的原因。

I'll explain to you why I like it.

Don't sign anything until your solicitor has explained the contract to you

在律师向你解释清楚合同之前，不要签署任何东西。

The teacher explained the rules to the children.

老师向孩子们说明规则。

It was difficult to explain the problem to beginners.

2. explain to *** that/ explain that

4. explain wh-从句/ explained to Sb wh-

He explained who each person in the photo was.

(2) 表示对自己的行为进行解释。如;

I really don't see why I should have to explain myself to you.

我真不明白我为什么非要向你解释我的行为不可。

Late again, Smith? I hope you can explain yourself! 又迟到了，史密斯?我希望你能说明一下原因!
